Ever wonder what a mix between a cocker spaniel and a chihuahua looks like? Well this is it, her name is Mushu (moo-shoo). Yes like Mushu pork hahaha! But more like Mushu the dragon character from the Disney movie Mulan, which is where my daughter chose the name from. We joke around that our next dog will have to be Master Shifu, from Kung Fu Panda lol!
Our first choice of dogs if we were ever gonna have one was a lab. A good sized nice lookin dog. Though, how could we resist the cuteness of this one? Mushu's a small dog, but she's no chihuahua. More like a smaller version of a cocker spaniel. Did I mention she was probably a crack baby? (lol!) As a puppy this gal generated so much energy, if could bottle and sell it, I'd be a millionaire! Which made her a perfect matched playmate for my daughter, Janessa. She used to jump up at me like crazy every single time I'd step out in the backyard. To the point to where I almost couldn't enjoy her due to being so caught up with constantly trying to get her to quit jumping up on my legs. Surprisingly, after learning a tip from an episode of The Dog Whisperer, that annoyance soon stopped.
Otherwise, she is the best dog ever! A little rough around the edges, because we keep her outside. (I just can't see having animals in the house) but great none the less. I've yet to meet any other dogs the same mix as her, for us she is truly unique.

Falcor, that's cute! He sounds adorable. Now that you've mentioned Neverending Story, that dragon's face looked more like a dog's than a dragons...LOL!
Hey _cheryl_, welcome to hubpages. Our family dog is a cocker/king charles, she is gorgeous too just like Mushu although I bet Mushu is a little smaller than Sassie.

Our Cocker Spaniel Lillie is due to have puppies in 2 weeks...the father is a purebred chihuahua...I am excited to see what they will look like...haha we call them cockawawas. Your dog looks very cute...hope that is somewhat what ours will look like.

My husband and I have a baby (6 weeks old) cocker spaniel -chihuahua mix named Cali! We were wondering what she may look like when she gets older and I hope she is half as cute as yours! So adorable! :)
Hi Christina, thanks. Cocker Spaniel and Chihuahua mix puppies are super cute aren't they?! I have yet to run into anyone who has this same mix. I'd love to see pics of anyone willing to share theirs! They are so full of energy at first, but surprisingly not so loud as I thought she was going to be with barking. If you're wanting another; and a black & white one at that, I'll have some by Christmas! :) I have a cocker spaniel (white with black ears, and she's about 1/2 the size of the usual Cocker; the runt) who just got pregnant by the neighbors little black chihuahua. I was searching for pics to see what they would look like and found yours! If the puppies end up looking like her, I'll be thrilled; I've had nightmares of chihuahuas with long ears! :)
Awww, Emily your puppies are going to look super cute I'm sure! Your cocker spaniel sounds adorable. I love this mix, Mushu's the perfect size not too small and not too big. She's basically like a mini cocker spaniel. People always think she's a puppy whenever we're out on walks. I'd love to see pics of your dog and pups when they arrive, please send some to me okay! I'll definitely take one...well, depending on how far you are from me lol!
Mushu is adorable! I have a mixed spaniel, but I'm not quit sure what her other half is. She is beautiful though and her face kind of resembles Mushu's. I wonder if she is a chihuahua mix?

Wow shelby, hunting abilities huh? They are smart dogs. Everytime the sprinklers turn on in our backyard ours darts out and grabs her toys and brings them under the patio lol!

We have a cocker, and we also have two fire belly toads named Mushu and Master Shifu. That is pretty funny, I think you should go for it!
Oh I just love Cocker Spaniels!!! My childhood Cocker Spaniel Sunny just died last week :( I currently have an American Eskimo but I love Cocker Spaniels too!

When I was younger (about 8) we got our cocker spaniel chihuahua mixed an she was the sweetest, most loving go withthe flow beautiful dog ever. She died on mothers day when I was 19. So she lived for 11 years. She was perfect for us when we were younger because like you said Cheryl they are a ball of energy. But as we got older and she got older she was calmer. Great inside or outside dog. Our Nahja was black and white and just beautiful. Now that I am older and have kids of my own I didn't think it would be possible to find my Nahja again. Till I read your story and it just brought back memories and helped me realizes it. And believe it or not for a lil bit of chi blood in them they don't bark that much. Or at least our Nahja didn't. Kayla, your story really tugged at my heart! It's amazing how close we get to our pets. I just really love her personality. I don't know why I think sometimes of how one day she won't be here anymore and how she is just so much a part of our family. We got her when my daughter was 2 and now she's 9. I can't imagine her not being with us. Good to hear your dog was just as enjoyable. And you're right, Mushu doesn't bark at all unless there's someone or something near the yard or front of the house that's not usually there. Glad my hub could bring back happy memories for you! :)

How wonderful to find a chi-spaniel community! I have always called this mix cacawawa. My 1st one lived to be 14.5 yrs. old, our second one is about 5yrs now. She is tri-color, about 22 lbs, short haired, drop eared and the smartest, sweetest, bestest dog you'd ever want to meet. We are going to start agility training next week.

Hey, I have a Cocker Spaniel Chihuahua mix too and when I read what u say about yours I though it was about mine =), she is extremely hyper. Can u tell me the tip to get her to quit jumping up on my legs, cause is making mi mother go crazy. Btw mine actually looks like yours.

Amely, it's funny how most of these cocker spaniel chihuahua mixes seem to have such similar personalities. I thought at first it was just ours, but obviously not. Believe it or not, I got her to quit jumping on my legs from watching The Dog Whisperer. Lol! Gently use your foot to move her away (literally- not kick her) every time she goes to jump on you, and continue walking as if she isn't there. The idea is that even negative attention like stopping and saying "no" is still attention, so they're going to continue jumping if that's what's done. For some reason, the pushing away with your foot and continuing on as if nothing somehow works. It takes some time, but eventually I guess she gets the idea that jumping on me doesn't get my attention. I do however praise her and pet her when she's not jumping on me :)

I have.a chispaniel that I just adopted from Craigslist. He is 12 weeks I think. My daughter named him Eclipse. He has a lot of energy and is very smart.

My girlfriend and I just adopted a 11 week old puppy and the people we got him from didn't know what he was they only knew the mom was a chihuahua and after looking at him for a few day it was my guess that the dad was a cocker spaniel. He has big floppy ears with long wavy hair, he's all black with brown socks and a little white on his chest but after looking at your pics, I'm almost positive now that I have a chispaniel. He is the cutest thing ever but I wonder how big he will get as he's only 4 1/2 lbs at 12 weeks old. Great dog though
Hey Justin! Your puppy sounds adorable. Mushu is 7yrs old now and is only about 8lbs. I love her size because she's not so tiny where I'm afraid of stepping on her, but she's also not so big. They are one of the cutest dogs I've seen. :)
My male cocker got my neighbors chi pregnant. I had never heard of these mixes til she had 5, and I took a boy pup. His name is Axl, and he is the cutest, sweetest thing! Do u think your chi-spaniel's mom is a long-haired chi? I love her longer hair, she is beautiful! Axl's mom is short haired, so he is also.

I would like another one someday too. That would be #3 for us. This mix doesn't show up all that often!! It really should be at the top of the list of the new "designer" mixes. They are missing out on the best "mix" of all!
I'm obsessively in love with my Chi-Spaniel, Nyota. She is only 7 months old but looks like a twin to the pictures you've posted. I've always owned large dogs and never considered small breeds, but she has been the best dog I've ever owned. She does bark at times (usually at her shadow or a spider), but most of the time she makes this chirping noise-- it reminds me of a gremelin or the noises the raptors made on the Jurassic Park movies. Does yours do that? BTW, her mom was a cocker spaniel, and her dad was a chihuahua.
I agree cacawawa! They make great family pets. I was so close to finding another chi-spaniel mix, but he ran away from the family who had found him prior to me responding to their ad. :/
Hi Lucia, Nyota's a pretty name. I can't say that I've heard of any chirping noises from Mushu. But she does have a pretty intimidating bark to her when she chooses to, usually at stray cats or birds. Aw, so my Mushu has a twin?! I bet she's adorable. :)
I just saw an ad on craigslist today, they are rehoming a chi/spaniel mix for $80. super cute and I was thinking of getting her but was wondering if they shed a lot?
My dog is also this mix! I call him my taco spaniel. I love him so much and he's a great dog. He's doesn't bark a lot, and he'll howl when I howl. It's so cute. He's gotten along with every dog, cat and person he has met and listens very well. I've had some problems potty training him, but I think that's more my fault than his.
